Is there a comprehensive list of new and old modem routers that are set up to work with Sky and Now broadband fibre to cabinet service?

Hey

Sky FTTC uses an authentication process called MER which is not that common and makes it tough to replace the Sky router..

I know from the sky forums that the VR2800 is reported to work with Sky, below is pasted from the sky forums.

There is a likelyhood that the lesser VR2100 would also support MER, but cannot find it mentioned..

I can confirm that the TP-Link VR2800 connects and works perfectly with Sky Fibre

I suggest you reset Router to factory settings before you start
Make sure you are connected to Router by Network Cable and not WiFi

Enter http://tplinkmodem.net or 192.168.1.1 in your Browser
If one Browser fails try a different one.

The TP-Link will ask you to set an admin password
Setup Password to suit yourself

Once in, the TP-Link setup wizard will start:
Input your location and time zone.
Click Next
Choose Sky(MER)_VDSL
Username: abcdefgh@skydsl
Password: 1234567890abcdef

That's all you need. Wait a couple of mins to authenticate and you should be good to go.

@Philbert

Hi Philbert

Thanks for that, I will add the VR2800 to the list. Unfortunately, it’s quite expensive.

I’m surprised TP-Link don’t say if MER is supported in the specifications. There seem to be a lot of people that are dissatisfied with the standard Sky/Now modem router.

All additional information gratefully received.

@HarryStottle

If you are happy to use the Sky router as a router only (disable the WiFi on it), then in thory you could use any of the Deco Range or Archer Cable Routers

In either setup just connect the Sky Router (with WiFi disabled) into the WAN port on the Deco or Archer and use it for everything (WiFi and devices), that does work and i have used it before.

The Deco range is quite good!    The S4 two pack is reasonably cheap and gives good coverage.

Hi Philbert

Thanks again but neither part of the standard modem/router seems to work very well.

Some believe that quite a few TP-link modem/routers support MER connection but without knowing model numbers it’s impossible to choose.

Once again, all information gratefully received.

I can now confirm that the TP-Archer VR600 does work well with Sky and Now broadband. I believe all models with a VR prefix can be set up in the same way. The procedure is quite simple.

I am surprised that the TP-Link support team didn’t know this and couldn’t be bothered to check when I asked.

  @Richard_T123

 In the setup wizard, there is an ISP drop-down menu, if you select Sky(MER)_VDSL from the list, it will work with NOWTV. When asked for an ISP password enter any 12-digit combination of numbers and letters (0 to 9 & a to f), followed by @nowtv. When asked for an ISP password enter any 8-digit combination of numbers and letters (0 to 9 & a to f).
