Hi

I decided to dropped a note about my experience with the deco be65 and how it compared with the Vodafone ultra hub. Did some simple tests over ookla and fast.Com. On the ultra hub I get 1.1 ground floor. Upstairs I get around 800 ish.

I was quite interested in seeing how one of these expensive decos would stack up on the WiFi.

I tried using my phones being a galaxy fold 5 and an iphone15 pro. Both 6e capable. Used a WiFi 6 laptop.

The deco was a single node with its claims of large square footage. I live in a small 3 bed terrace from the 30s. All brick walls everywhere. The deco was placed high near the ceiling in the centre of the house on a wood shelf. Same as where the ultra hub was.

The deco was utter garbage compared to the hub. The higher 6ghz band was completely useless upstairs. The other bands gsve signal but not much on performance. The 6ghz ssid kept Dropping signals and barely getting 150 down on the 2.4 & 5ghz bands. I go from one bedroom above the deco of getting 700 down all the way down to 150 in a matter of tiny walk to the box room. How can a £200 plus midrange deco node perform so badly? My ancient netgear nighthawk was way quicker than this.

My ultra hub floods the house at an average of 800 in comparison upstairs.

Sent the deco back. Seems I'd have to spend over £500 for the mesh to achieve similar performance and a handful of features the deco has that the ultra hub does not and really don't care about. Plus the ultra hub was free and can get free boosters from Vodafone.

  @ITgeezer

Hi, Thank you very much for sharing with us. Your insight is greatly appreciated and might also be beneficial to other users.

It seems like most of your mobile devices, Galaxy Fold 5 & iPhone15 are WiFi 6E only. Deco BE65 stands out as a more valuable WiFi 7 Mesh choice. Otherwise, the advanced 320Mhz, MLO, and 4K-QAM (4096-QAM) features are not being used and Deco BE65 may not deliver superior performance compared to lower-end 6E routers like the Vodafone Pro II Ultra hub available here. Moreover, as there is only one Deco, its integrated 2.4+5+6GHz Backhaul feature is also inactive.

So if the overall internet bandwidth is about 1G/s and most of the home devices are still WiFi 6/6E, a twin-pack Deco XE75 might be better for a single Deco BE65.

Thanks again and best regards.
