Model: Archer C6
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 1.13.2

Hello everyone,

I've been having loads of issues with setting up the archer c6 (EU) v4 for bridging mode. I've had this router set up in bridging mode before and it had worked, but my ISP had changed some stuff that I had contacted them about and made them change it back. Issue is that I initially did not know that and I reseted the router. I have setup the router the same way it was before reseting, but now I can't seem to get it working anymore.

What I am trying to do specifically is to bridge the archer c6 with the vodafone wifi 6 box over wds. neither the 2.4ghz works, nor does the 5ghz. When surveying the network, the router does find my networks on both signals and it does apparently connect since it says that the archer router is connected, but in the end I do not receive any internet and the archer c6 is not found within the list of connected devices on the vodafone wifi 6 box. beyond that I also have the issue that when I setup a different ip for the router, which in my case is 192.168.0.108 (and I have made sure that this ip is not used by any other device) that initially it can be connected to, but at some point can not be reached anymore and when I look up the ip for it on windows it just shows me a blank field for the default gateway, making the UI often unreachable. this issue only occurs once i try to set up a different ip. if I keep the archer router ip on 192.168.0.1 then it never has that issue, but I can't really have 2 devices on the same ip adress.

What I have tried is following the official tp-link guide: https://www.tp-link.com/de/support/faq/1555/

I have tried a lot of different videos on youtube, though to be fair none felt particularly helpful since all of them ran on an OS with a UI that looked entirely different from mine. one of the videos mentioned that I should setup the vlan setting to bridge and put all 4 ports into internet mode, but none of that helped.

I have also made sure that none of my components are at fault. my ethernet cable works perfectly fine. and I don't know any ways I could test it right now, but since nothing out of the ordinary happened to the router. I somehow doubt it got damaged, though who really knows for sure, besides tp-link themself. would be a shame though if the router broke, since I only have it for like 2 or 3 months.

if anyone knows how to help me, feel free to advice me in any way. I appreciate all the help i can get on this issue.

in that regard. I wish you all a wonderful day and a pleasant upcoming weekend.

What changes were made on the vodafone router by your ISP, can you elaborate on this  ?

You can try to use vodafone DHCP address reservation feature to set a static IP address for your Archer C6 - have you tried that ?

Basically you have used the correct guide for configuring Archer C6 WDS feature.

@terziyski they accidently turned off the feature to manually set the channel and bandwith. I have since resolved that issue and now both 2.4ghz and 5ghz run on a static channel. the 5ghz runs on channel 44 and the bandwith is 80Mhz.

I have tried setting up a static ip for my archer router, but it did not make any difference and now I once again can't reach the ui, because the archer router does not want to be reached for some reason.

Changing wireless settings of the main router (vodafone) could be the reason for this issue.

What you could do is to configure WDS on 2.4 GHz band and if you still don't have access to ist WebGUI try the following:

Use a laptop or a PC and set it with a static IP address in your vodafone LAN IP address range i.e 192.168.0.254.

Connect this computer by an ethernet cable to one of Archer C6 LAN ports and open the C6 reserved IP address in a web browser.

Check th status of the WDS - go to Advanced > Status > Wireless to check the WDS status (When the WDS status is Run, it means WDS bridging is successfully built).

In this case you should play with the vodafone wireless settings to find the sweetspot where you can build the WDS successfuly like before the wireless settings were changed - probably you should keep the static wireless channel and set channel width to Auto on the vodafone router.

Don't forget to revert back the network settings of your computer when finish troubleshooting the WDS.

@terziyski I believe what you are refering to is the old UI of the tp-link. The UI I have has the status under Advanced < Network < Status and there it does not say WDS status is run anywhere. my ui. here is an example image i found on the internet: Archer c6 v4 - WDS not working properly - Home Network Community

beyond that I am starting to believe that something is genuinely wrong with the archer router. I did try to do so as you explained, with once again no success, beyond that I have noticed that the archer router will not even be detected within the vodafone network, even when directly connected over ethernet, leading me to belief that the archer router is at fault here, considering that I have since pulled out another router and the wireless bridging has worked without any problems. it's a shame really that I paid 40€ for a device that atleast from what I can tell at this point only managed to life barely long enough for my return time to expire. who knows I will try out further testing, but so far I am severly disappointed with my experience.

The guide you mentioned was probably written when Archer C6 v2 was released and there may be some WebGUI differences - chefck this video.

You can check in your Archer C6 v4 - according to its emulator similar information can be found here:

@terziyski yes and it does say connected there, yet it does not have any internet, nor is it in the network list on my vodafone router, even when both routers are linked via ethernet. this is why I assume that something is wrong with my router.

When using Archer C6 WDS feature I am not sure that the Archer can be seen in the Vodafone router connected devices.

But if you connect Archer C6 in AP mode (wired) to the Vodafone router it definatelly should be there - try that and check again.

If you still have that issue then you can contact your retailer or your local support since the device is under warranty.
