After a long hunt around, I finally found that Powerline apparently only supports standard size Ethernet frames (1500 Octets) according to the AV2 Powerline spec. document.

I disabled that on my PCs / NAS / Routers not the adaptors. However I have since turned it back on with firmware 3.2.4b and it seems to be stable. I haven't actually tested if the 9xxx firmware...
