the 3-rd part firmware will void the warranty. I don't think it's a good solution.

As far as i know, only some of the tp-link modems support Telnet such as TD-W8961ND. It seems that none of their wireless routers or access points support telnet/ssh.

How about your other wireless devices？ Do you have the Internet access? Can you connect other wireless network on this tablet? Make sure the Internet light on the modem lit up.

I have a tp-link 3G router before. You may try to set it up on Network-3G, NOT from quick setup. If your problem still remains, you'd better contact the tplink guy for help.
