TD-W9980 frequent dropping connection

Strange problem not experienced before. The modem/router is freezing quite regularly - I am unable to even browse to the admin page - after about 20 minutes or so the page will load very slowly and eventually internet access returns. During the entire time my devices show as being connected to the modem wirelessly - just unable to get on to the internet from them. Has anyone else experienced this problem? It is my first TP-Link device and its not current;y performing as expected...
