W9980 on BT Infinity

I bought the TD-W9980 to replace my BT Home Hub 5, as it occasionally dropped WiFi at annoying times.
Anyway, 4 days now, and the W9980 has dropped a few times, and also, where I used to get around 17mb download speed on the HH5, I now only get between 12 and 13mb. I test on speedtest.net, which is always reliable.
I have used the default settings that the Setup used originally, as well as tweaked and played with the settings manually to see if I can improve the speed. i have also done a hard and factory reset... nothing makes any difference at all :)
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Could the router be faulty? It seems an odd fault, but the speed is, what, 30% slower than I was getting on the HH5, so that's quite a lot.
