Model: Deco M4
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version:

In my upstairs computer room I'm using a small Netgear router to connect serveral deviced to the main network via ethernet. My PC and a Deco M4 are connected to that Netgear router via cable however all of my computer's network traffic goes through that Deco's wireless instead of the ethernet cable the router is connected to. The only way to resolve this (currently as I see it) is by manually setting my computer's IP to use the modem's IP network and gateway (192.168.2.xxx) instead of the Deco's (192.168.68.xxx).

Since I also have a laptop from work that uses the Deco's wireless network, I cannot use remote desktop to access that laptop from my computer. So while my computer is on 192.168.2.xxx I cannot connect to the laptop that is on 192.168.68.xxx. I'm tired of manually changing my IP from 192.168.2.xxx to 192.168.68.xxx every time I need to use the laptop remotely.

I pluged the outgoing ethernet cable into the Deco's 2nd port instead of the Netgear router but that didn't seem to make a difference. I highly prefer not to have my computer's internet go through the wireless network because of poor signal strength the upstairs Deco has to the main Deco downstrairs.

1st - How can I make the Deco use the ethernet cable for connecting to the rest of the network instead of the wireless mesh network?

2nd - Should/Can I change the Deco's subnet to 255.255.0.0 to help with connecting to devices between 192.168.2.xxx and 192.168.68.xxx?

Hi, welcome to our community.

192.168.2.xxx and 192.168.68.xxx belong to two different network segments, so your computer connected to the Netgear router and the laptop connected to the Deco network cna not communicate directly, which is normal. I am afraid the reason is not subnet change of Deco.

Sorry that I am a little confused about your first question.

You may share the complete network topology including all the network devices. Or draw it for better understanding.

Thank and best regards.
