Powerline TL-WPA4220 (Av600) keeps rebooting when connected to a new router
Hi,
I have the TL-WPA4220 TKIT, but I am only using the two AV600 adapters. They worked together without issues for almost a year.
Last month, we changed our internet service provider (Italy) to Fastweb, using the "Fastweb Nexxt ONE" router. Since then, one of the AV600 adapters, which is connected to this router, has been stuck in an endless reboot cycle.
All other devices connected to the Fastweb router work perfectly fine. However, as soon as the router is connected, the AV600 connected to to router via ethernet cable starts rebooting repeatedly. If I disconnect the erthent cable, or if I disconnect the router from the lan switch, the AV600 functions normally, but it starts rebooting again when the router is reconnected.
How can I solve this issue? Any suggestion ?
Thank you.

Hi @dsptech,
If your powerline adapter is having self-rebooting issues, please try the suggestions below:
1. Try plugging the adapters into different wall outlets to rule out any electrical issues.
2. Ensure that your Powerline adapter is running the latest firmware. Instructions for updating can be found here: How to update the firmware using tpPLC Utility (new logo)
3. Reset the powerline devices to factory settings and reconfigure them.
How to reset: Press and hold the "pair" button for at least 6 seconds on device itself.
How to configure: Please refer to this FAQ:How to secure (pair) the Powerline Network

Hi,
As you suggested, I performed the following tests:
- Plugged the adapter into different outlets, but the issue persists (even with all other powerline adapters disconnected).
- Firmware is already up to date: TL-WPA4220 KIT (EU) V5_1.0.12 Build 230309.
- Performed a factory reset, but the issue remains.
- Used the tpPLC utility to test various QoS settings, but none had any effect.
- WiFi totally disabled, but the issue remains.
Are there any new firmware updates available, or any other troubleshooting steps I can try?

Hi @Joseph-TP ,
Here’s a final update on the issue:
- I reflashed the firmware to rule out any factory-related issues, but the problem persists.
- I tested a brand-new TL-WPA4220 unit, and it exhibited the same issue. This confirms that the 470uF capacitor in the internal power supply is not the cause (contrary to similar reports of rebooting issues).
- I conducted another test by connecting a TP-PA4010 to a single TL-WPA4220, pairing them, and then connecting the Fastweb router to the TP-PA4010. I left the TL-WPA4220’s WiFi disabled and no Ethernet cables connected. Despite this, the TL-WPA4220 still entered an endless reboot cycle.
This is the evidence of a firmware flaw triggered —most likely— by certain LAN broadcasts from the new router.
Since there seems to be no fix available, I am left with no choice but to return all TL-WPA4220 units (and related kit devices) to the local distributor.
Thank you for your assistance.
Best regards.

Hi @dsptech,
As you mentioned before, WPA4220 was working fine before, but it started to have problems after changing internet service provider (Italy) to Fastweb. It is likely that there is an incompatibility issue between the two.
If you still need to continue using the router with the new internet service provider, please confirm with Fastweb whether you need to modify the settings on the router?

I confirm that the issue began after changing the router, which offers only general configuration options. For more specific settings, I would need to contact the provider’s support.
That said, I have never encountered a network device that reboots due to an incompatibility. I have worked with many brands, including TP-Link device -- this is my job -- and in all cases, an error indication and/or a simple loss of data transmission would occur, rather than a reboot.
For this reason, contacting the provider’s support is not a viable option. Given the circumstances, any request regarding this issue would understandably be disregarded (please also note that the TP-PA4010 works fine). Moreover, I have no idea what to ask, as I do not know the root cause of the issue.
However, even if the root cause is an incompatibility, only an unhandled condition within the device could justify a reboot instead of signaling an error. Therefore, this still indicates a flaw in the firmware.
Edit: In addition to my previous posts, I have also tested reducing the Ethernet speed to 10Mbps using an old Ethernet hub for troubleshooting purposes, but the issue persists.
Regards.
