Model: Deco X55
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hi

I have a S7/S4 mesh network

I have bought 3 X55s

S7 is currently my main deco

Trying to add the X55 as the main but it is not being recognised by the app

Looks like it is not picking up an IP address when I plug it into the S7

Following the TPLink instructions to add a new main deco but it is not working.

Any help much appreciated

Got it working.  My solution..... Hope this helps anyone else in the same predicament.

Whole thing took me a couple of hours, but better than setting up the Deco's again.

First thing to note is that once one X55 is setup the others once turned on will autoconfigure and join the same network.

1. Disconnected my main deco (which was an S7).

2. Connected and setup the Deco X55.  I am on VirginMedia so had to reboot modem, once modem was up connected to Deco X55.

3. Configured the X55 onto a temporary new network.  I was feeling creative, so called the network temporary

4. Once temp network was configured and up turned on the other X55s and let them autoconfigure.  This took around 5 mins (felt longer)

5. Deco app asked if I wanted to update firmware on X55s, though you can force it in the Deco app.

6. Reconnected the original main deco (my S7) - again rebooted my modem etc

7. Connected S7 when modem came up - had original network back

8. Reset one of the X55s

9. Connected the reset X55 to the S7 with an ethernet cable.  I used port 1 on the X55 (after having gone through a loop of using each and coming back to port 1 indecision)

10. Once X55 was pulsing blue, left the X55 connected to the S7 for about 5 minutes

11. Selected Replace Main Deco in the deco app and went through the process about 7 times, then crossed my fingers and went through it again and this time it found the Deco X55 and started the process.  (all in the finger crossing! Don't skip this part)

12. X55 Deco light went green and app said copy configuration.  It wont surprise you but this failed again and again. Sooooo....I rebooted the X55

13. Went into the X55 setting and clicked set as main, gave me an error message about failing to copy config or such.

14. Did it again and lo and behold it copied and it worked.

15. Reset the other X55s.  They restarted and automatically joined the network.

16. The S7s I had all kept working.  I have now replace 3 of these with the X55 and have one S7 by the conservatory for a better signal.

Hurrahhhh....patience and wishing is what done it!

I do think it may have been quicker just to reset the whole network up from scratch but this way meant everything just kept on working.

When it works it makes adding a new Deco so easy.  When it does not it is frustrating beyond belief.

If you do not have much technical knowledge about how these connect up then you'll probably just lob it all out of the window.  Keep on trying though and hopefully the above helps.  If you find a 4 leaf clover it will probably get done quicker  wink

Try it diffrently: add X55 as Satellite Deco. After that, promote Satellite X55 to Main Deco.

Hi, thanks for posting question here.

As @Alexandre. suggested, you may add Deco X55 as satellite Deco, and refer to Case1 in the guide:

How to replace the main Deco with another Deco

Best regards.

 Thanks  @Alexandre. @Marvin_S

Unfortunately that is not working either.

It is weird, the blue light on the Deco X55 is flashing but the Deco app cannot find it.

From what I can see the Deco is not pickup up an IP address to allow it to be seen.

I have confirmed that the Deco X55 devices are working, as I setup a temporary network using the X55s and they setup fine and could be seen in the Deco app.

I then updated the firmware on the Deco X55s

To try and check further on this, I reset one of the X55s and again tried to add it as an additional Deco to the original network made by my Deco S7s.

The Deco App cannot see the Deco X55 when it is in its pulsing blue status and the app is trying to find a Deco.

Looks like I will just have to scrap my current network and build up again using an X55 as the main Deco.

Even weirder.

Kept trying and plugged into each of the X55 ethernet ports. Second time round on port 1 it connects and sets up.

Fails to copy network information from S7 to X55. So will try again.

Very hit and miss!
