No Internet connection detected, on initial setup

On a brand new product:
I keep getting "No Internet connection detected," in the final set up stage (Confirm Settings), using the Easy set up assistant CD. (Windows OS)
The communication cord is well connected to both ends. Connecting it directly from the ADSL modem ( TpLink TD-8817) to a laptop, does provide internet connection! (with which this post is sent).
I tried it for a few times from Step1, including turning things off. Internet and wiring are good.
