The IoT Network we're all asking for
I think if these two features are added we'll get the IoT Network we're all asking for:
- Add an option to automatically isolate devices on the IoT network; all current and any future devices
- Allow devices on the main network to talk to devices on the IoT network, but not the other way around (they're isolated)
From what I've been reading on this forum, the exiting IoT Network feature is mainly there to present a 2nd SSID where the security settings can be softer to allow older or less capable IoT devices to join the network, but they are members of the same network as main network since devices / users on the main network would still like to have connectivity for control.
When questions arise about protecting the main network from these less security capable IoT devices the answer has been to isolate the individual devices of concern, then to rely on control through a cloud app or service.
But the whole reason for the IoT network feature is because Wi-Fi security has to be weakened, so devices on that network should be automatically isolated. Then, to retain control, devices on the main network should still be able to connect to IoT network devices, but devices on the IoT network should only be able to connect to other devices on the IoT network and to the internet.
And if the Guest network is activated, that should be limited to Internet only, no IoT nor main network access.
Do you think this might meet our needs?
