Firmware Version: Archer BE230(EU)_V1_1.1.2 Build 20241125

Hello! I have a very serious issue with a brand new TP-Link Archer BE230 router. After setting up the router, it is starting to heat up, I can use it normally for about 20-30 minutes and then it starts rebooting every 2-3 minutes unless I turn it off and let it cool down, after which I can use it again for 20-30 minutes. I have tried factory resetting the device, rolling back the firmware to versions 1.1.1 and 1.1.0, changing the power adapter, keeping the default settings, without any change in behaviour. From the moment the router is powered on it starts heating up and then starts constantly rebooting. The only setting on the router right now is the PPPoE WAN connection required by my provider, the rest of the settings are the factory defaults. Please help me fix this issue! SN: 2249727001396

Hi, welcome to our community.

May I confirm some information to understand your situation better?

1. Is there any USB device connected to the router?

2. What is your exact network topology?

3. Where did you put the router? Did you ever adjust the location of the router?

4. You may share a short video to show th process of the problem if possible.

5. If it is urgent for you, we also recommend contacting local technical support for further investigation or retailer to confirm warranty.

Thank you and best regards.

Hey there,

1 and 2. There are no USB devices connected to the router, or any downlink RJ45 connected devices for that matter, only the WAN cable which comes from a Huawei ONT device acting as Bridge / Media Coverter from the network provider's optical fiber to RJ45. The only connected clients are WiFi clients: a 2014 Mac mini, an Iphone 15 Plus, an Apple Watch 8, a 2024 Macbook Air M3, a Chromecast Audio and a 2020 Philips Ambilight TV.

3. As mentioned previously, this is a brand new router, so I placed it in the exact same spot the previous router (TP-Link AX10) has been working wonderfully for the past 4 years. Under the TV in my bedroom. The temperature is about 22-23 degrees Celsius here. Seeing as this brand new router doesn't want to stay powered on, it has been replaced by my old trusty AX10 router. I have not tried another location, since the old router works just fine here.

4. I will shoot a video as soon as I get the time to replace the routers again and wait for the BE230 to heat up. But not to get your expectations high, it will just be the BE230 working (4 white LEDs - power, 2.4G wifi, 5G wifi, internet) for about 2-3 minutes, then the router restarts with the usual all LEDs off, then on, then power LED blinking white, then the 2 wifi LEDs turn on white with the power LED blinking white, then the Internet LED turns on red and the power LED turns solid white, and finally the Internet LED turns to white signalling successful internet connectivity. The router stays like this for about 2-3 minutes, then reboots again and again. The only difference that seems to affect the time it stays powered on is temperature. So, if the router has been switched off and is room temperature when plugged in, it will stay on for about 30 minutes until the first reboot, then it will start rebooting every 2-3 minutes.

5. The router is brand new and has a 2 year warranty from the store but it was bought on a promotion and I am afraid the store will choose to refund me instead of replacing or repairing the device which is why I would like to try and get it fixed myself before going that way. In the mean time I can rely on my old trusty AX10. The only urgency would be the store only has a 14-day return window if the device actually is DOA. A window which started this Friday :)

Thank you for your assistance!

All the best,

AK97
