Model: Deco X10
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.6 Build 20240911 Rel.36533

I have updated the firmware on my Deco to 1.1.6. The descriptive text did not mention a change to the parental controls (this change is now mentioned in the firmware update to 1.1.7) and yet now I need a subscription to be able to use them. Given this was the primary reason for buying the system for me, I am now very frustrated.

What can I do to get back to the previous parental control?

I have no wish to subscribe, as this incurs additional cost.

Hi, Welcome to the community.

Deco X10 could revert to 1.0.6 via firmware recovery then the previous parental control settings will be restored:

How to Downgrade Deco

Deco X10(EU)_V1_1.0.6 Build 20240111

Thank you very much and best regards.

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply.

Looking at doing this I have a couple of questions:

1. The firmware recovery method described in the link here: https://www.tp-link.com/se/support/faq/2958/

and pdf in the zip file that you included in your message "How to upgrade TP-Link Deco Whole Home Wi-Fi System.pdf" describe different procedures. Which one should I use?

2. Do I need to upgrade/downgrade the firmware specifically on the main Deco, or can I use any one of the 3 Decos in the system? Will the firmware then be shared to all Decos in the system?

3. If I need to use the main Deco, this is my router (connected to incoming internet) and so by disconnecting it I will lose my internet connection. Will the process described still work?

Thanks for your clarifications.

Regards

Teppy
