Model: TL-WR841N
Hardware Version: V10
Firmware Version: 3.16.9 Build 200409 Rel.41432n

Hello all,

Today I have updated my router to the latest available firmware on the TP Link website - Download for TL-WR841N | TP-Link

The update has been initialized due to some security concerns - my family members just like to open whatever they see on the web and not think twice before clicking on shady ads. Nothing has happened as of now, no symptoms of h*cking/breach has occurred, and I truly hope I am just being paranoid.

However, upon reconfiguring everything (router got reset to factory defaults after the update) it came to my attention that the Hardware and Firmware versions on the status page are now saying (Beta), which can be seen in the attached screenshot below:

There is no watermark across the other router pages, and the actual Firmware upgrade page does not show the versions as Beta:

Also, per TP Link's website the firmware should be 200325, while the downloaded and flashed file shows 200409.

Has anyone experienced such an issue with their WR841N V10 update, and should I be concerned that the firmware I applied is malicious? The update mainly rectifies the NVD - CVE-2020-8423 vulnerability, which is thoroughly covered on NIST's website (which even has the official TP Link to the router's firmware files).

Please let me know.

Thank you in advance.

Hi  @churbadzhiyata ,

After confirming with the engineer, this version is normal and is directly updated on the originally released firmware. Please don't worry too much.

Please feel free to contact us if you have other questions
