Model: Deco P9
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hello - bit of a rant and plea for help.

Does anyone know of a reliable way to make a Deco P9 stick to the PCL backhaul? I'm having endless problems with connectivity and I feel like I've tried all the firmware versions, all combinations of Decos and endless faffing to no avail.

Looking over here, a bunch of the other Deco models have had the boost that the quite frankly appallingly unstable P9 desperately needs to make it even remotely worthwhile - the ability to select what connection type to prefer. https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/3480/

Is this coming to the P9 any time soon? or should I just bin them now and buy from a brand that works?

Thanks - I hope.

Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback.

The "Connection Preference" doesn't support selecting the Mesh Backhaul types(WiFi or PLC Backhaul only).

Satellite Deco P9 units usually would simultaneously work over both WiFi and PLC Backhaul. The powerline performance highly depends on the electrical interference and sometimes, the satellite Deco P9 will randomly perform on WiFi Backhaul only.

It is suggested to move the satellite P9 units closer to the main Deco and keep them far away from the high-power home appliances.

Currently, there hasn't been any further news about a new firmware of Deco P9. If possible, you could test the beta firmware here to see whether it helped:

Improve Powerline Backhaul on Deco P9

Best regards.
