Hi,

I want to print over WiFi on a label printer (Brother QL-600) that has an USB port only for connection. My idea was to use an TL-WR902AC instead of a dedicated print server. Is that possible?

Thank you for any help!

Alex

Hi  @Alex_vG,

I checked Brother QL-600 information and it does not support WiFi connection.

You can follow these steps to connect Brother QL -600:

To connect a Brother QL-600 label printer to your computer,:
1. Turn off the printer.
2. Connect the USB cable from the USB port on the back of the printer to your computer.
3. Turn on the printer.
4. Download and run the printer driver and P-touch Editor from the Brother website

It is recommended that you can check with the printer support on how to properly install Brother QL-600.

TP-Link discontinued the Print Server feature of their home-grade Wi-Fi routers many years ago. If you click the "This Article Applies to" arrow on this webpage https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/415/ you can get an idea which models supported it. Perhaps one or the other could be found on the second-hand market. Make sure to pay attention to the "hardware versions". A newer hardware version of a particular router model does not necessarily support all the features that an older hardware version of the same router model supported.

  @Joseph-TP

Thank you for the reply and your effort.

Your recommendation is the obvious way to connect the printer directly to the computer. In my situation, that is not possible, because the printer has to be in a different room.

From your response I take it that the TL-WR902AC can not replace a dedicated print server? Is that right?

Hi  @Alex_vG ,

Yes, according to the information I can find about Brother QL-600 label printer, it needs to be connected to a PC and then managed by the PC.
However, since Brother QL-600 label printer is not our product, I don’t know whether it can be managed in other ways. So, I suggest you contact Brother QL-600 label printer to confirm whether there are other installation methods to meet your current usage environment.
If you get a definite reply, we can also compare our products according to your needs to confirm whether there are products that meet your usage needs.

Thank you.

  @Joseph-TP , thank you.

Please don't concentrate on the Brother printer. My question can be applied to any other printer with USB port.

My question is: Can the TL-WR902AC act as a print server for an USB printer?

Hi,

The TL-WR902AC only supports 3G/4G USB modems and USB storage devices. USB printers are not supported.

Hi  @woozle, thank you! What a pity, I really like that little unit. But I will look out for a different router or print server.

That's a pity. I have an older MR3020 and I really love the size and versatility of those travel routers. Thank you again for the enlightening information!

I found a different manufacturer that sells a similar travel router which ships with openWRT and has sufficient flash to install the packages needed for a print server. So I will try that route (pun intended 😉).
