Model: Deco E4
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 1.1.1 Build 20240104 Rel 55043

Hi,

I have 3x TP Link Deco E4 extenders throughout my house to make my network seemless, and my Hardware is set to automatically move between the Deco devices, as intended. However some devices seem to latch on to the furthest away points on the network, which results in me getting a terrible signal. Is it possible to configure the network to make it so that I connect to the closest extender rather than the strongest.

For reference, I have the Main deco, and a booster on the ground floor (main unit next to the router, booster at the other end of the house), another booster on the first floor, and a final booster on the second floor, this covers the entire house.

check if fast roaming is enabled in deco app

and also check in the settings on the client devices whether mesh is enabled on the problematic devices

In general, there is one rule: only the client end device decides which point to connect to

you can try to direct the device to one point or another using certain methods or settings, but the final decision on this is made only by the end client device

I have the same problem. My Deco's were recently purchased three Decco 4's.

I Set up the main one in the living room and the second upstairs where reception was poor. It was two weeks before I could set up the third in the hallway.

The Deco upstairs has weak reception and is connected to the main deco in the living room, not the one in the hallway which has strong reception.

 @HP7

It's more of an issue with my hardware randomly selecting different DECOs around my home instead of picking the closest one

@Godlike66

Thanks for that, would seem my Deco's had some sort of brain-f*rt and switch to Wifi Router mode, instead of access point. I have now fixed this and have enabled the options you recommended.

Thank you so much, and I have made your response the Recommended Solution...
