Model: Deco M4
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 1.1.2 Build 20231227 Rel. 84005

Hello,

I had a network with three Decos M4 (bought in box as 3-pack). It's M4(EU) Ver:4.0, FW: 1.1.2 Build 20231227 Rel. 84005 (for Deco app It's latest).

Everything worked fine for months.

After a while, I bought another Deco M4 and I connected it to the network. But something happened. Static devices (dishwasher, Chromecasts, printer ...) sometimes used Deco, which was not closest and with worse signal. And I totally lost option for selecting preffered Deco to connect in device detail page.

I tried change the main Deco to the new one, It worked only for a short time period, then again preffered Deco option disappear. Maybe after firmware update? I don't know.

I figured out that the problem is maybe with incompatibilty between M4(EU) and M4R(EU) version. Newer Deco that I bought after a while is a M4R(EU) - Ver.2.0, FW: 1.6.2 Build 20240308 Rel. 55841. For me It's still Deco M4, but for Deco system probably not. Firmware versions for both types are different, but all are the latest.

When I disconnect M4R from the network and Deco app, everything works again and I can see preffered Deco options etc. and I think network is more stable.

Can you please check this for me?

Update screen:

M4R(EU) connected in network, preffered connection missing:

M4R(EU) disconnected from network, preffered connection appear again:

For Connection Preference feature to work and be available in Deco app, all Deco units in Deco mesh must have firmware that supports it. Your new M4R(EU) Ver.2.0, FW: 1.6.2 has firmware 1.6.2, which does not support Connection Preference feature.

When you add Deco unit to Deco mesh that does not support feature, the feature dissapears from Deco app. When you remove that Deco unit, feature reappears.

You have two options on how to bring that feature back:

1. Return M4R(EU) - Ver.2.0, FW: 1.6.2 to seller and buy different Deco, one that supports Connection Preference. I would recommend Deco M5.

2. Upgrade M4R(EU) - Ver.2.0, FW: 1.6.2 firmware to version 1.7, that support this feature. That will be manual upgrade, not through Deco app. You'll find necessary steps here: Deco M4/S4_V2 Support Connection Preference
