Model: Archer AX73
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.1.0 Build 20240323 rel.70541(4555)

Hi there.

I recently purchased a TP Link Archer AX73 AX5400) and a range extender RE650

I have update the firmware on both, and have connected the RE650 using onemesh over wifi in extender mode.

I am finding that none of my wifi clients that connect seem to change access between the AX73 or RE650, and will hold onto their first point of connection.

Router and extender are at opposite ends of the house, it is not a large house, but have the extender to get better signal at the other end of the house.

Have set the IP of the extender to 192.168.0.253, and the router is original (192.168.0.1)

I have lowered the wireless transmit power to low, but still not really working as I would expect.

I have read that the mesh really only works with the 802.11k/v, my mobile is only a few months old, so would think it has this (connects at wifi6), but still no good.

Is there something I am missing?

You can try lowering the RE650 coverage  as well:

Thanks.

Did try that, and also router on low and RE on high, but with router on low, then I lose signal to a wifi security camera. (Also it didn't help fix the issue)

I do have a LAN port next to the RE I can use as a back haul.

You have to find the router and RE sweetspots.

Try AX73 wireless transmit power on middle and RE on intermediate or low coverage.

You can use RE650 LAN port to connect wired device when in RE mode.

To use RE650 LAN port as a wired backhaul you have to configure RE650 in AP mode - details.
