i have the same issue but with 3 Decos. I recently bought my 3rd for the exact same reason, to boost the signal of the last node. SOMEONE HELP PLEASE.

I just updated the firmware to version 1.6.1 Build 20231228 Rel. 53314 on my Deco M4R and I still don't see the option to select a preferred connection source.  I'm based in Taiwan if this makes any difference.

 

Our house is long shaped, so I would need one of the Deco units at the back of the house to connect to the Deco unit located nearer to the middle of the house.  The main Deco unit is at the front of the house.

 

I remember it was able to do this previously, albeit automatically - somehow there was logic in the Deco units to look for the strongest/closest source and connect to that one.  Somehow this function/feature/logic is no longer there anymore, and only connects to the Deco device that is assigned as the main Deco device.

 

Kind of annoying that the devices advertises as having the ability to do WIFI roaming with no drop in signal, but we cannot even configure the layout of the mesh network - totally defeats the definition of a mesh network.

 

Who do I need to yell at to get an answer or at least a timeline, or the ability to prioritise this in the Product/Engineering team's queue?

  @NC10 As much as I want to try this manual update, it requires me to downgrade to version 1.5.8 firmware, which I don't really want to do to avoid bricking my Deco devices.

 

A formal update should be provided instead for the general public.  If TP-link is able to provide this alternative driver, they should be able to merge and provide the update/feature in a formal deployment/firmware version through the Deco app.

Redesignate bedroom 2 as main unit?
