Yes it is indeed possible to add WiFi 6 or 6e to your network, all you need to do is add another Deco from the X range (x20 or xe75 for examples), all deco will work together.  

 

However bear in mind that you wont get the full speed on this extra node unless you replace both the Main Deco and the Sub node with WiFi6 versions, otherwise it will just communcate to the S4 using WiFi5

 

Ideally you would need 2x new X range deco.  Add the first one then promote it to the MAIN Deco and swop it with the existing main.   Then add a new sub node (if needed) whereever you feel appropiate.   The 3 existing S4 will connect to the new X Main Deco using WiFi5, the new sub node will connect using WiFi6.

 

If you are considering 6e..  better just coughing it up and going for a WiFi7 Deco that has just been released (6e is just an interm solution until 7 arrived), however both 6e and 7 are VERY expensive!

@Philbert Thank you for confirming this. My three Deco S4 units are connected by cat6e ethernet for the backhaul. Would I still be limited to Wifi 5 speeds considering this?

Sorry for slow reply, no is the quick answer for you  :)

 

If you have a new Deco WiFi6 node cabled into the S4, it will be connected at 1gbps which is about the max of WiFi6 so it will be fine.. you shouldnt lose anything.   Yes the device may say its connected at 1200 or 1800 or whatever, in reality its only about 1gbps in actual transfer speeds so you are fine! 

 

That aside however..  if you do go full in for WiFi6e or WiFi7, then these tend to come with 2.5gb LAN ports so you would then be restricting them.  Ideally these should be on 2.5gb connections, but its unlikely to cause you issues in reality.     This is likely overkill for what you require.

 

 

Personally, for what you are after I would add in a single X20 or X50 where you need it, cabled back to the S4.. that will give you the 1gbps backhaul you need for full WiFi6 speeds.
