Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hi.   I have deco mesh in two buildings 300 meters apart connected by a wireless bridge. Red light on main deco m5 in 2nd building.

Building 1: Setup is Starlink router in bypass mode connected to a main deco m5 connected wirelessly to a 2nd m5 and an m4 in the same building. Bridge: Ethernet cable from main M5 to a Ubiquiti nanobeam ac gen2 which is then connected as a wireless bridge to a 2nd nanobeam unit in the 2nd building. Building 2: Another Deco M5 unit connects by ethernet to the 2nd nanobeam. The deco M5 in building 2 is connected wirelessly to a deco m4.

All was working for about 3 weeks. Now the main deco m5 in building 2 has gone red. No visibility on the deco app. Power cycling the m5 and nanobeam in building 2 doesn't do anything. M5 remains red. Resetting the m5 brings it back to ready mode with flashing blue light.  But connecting the Ethernet from the nanobeam crashes the m5 unit back into red light. The m4 unit in building 2 shows red light when the main m5 crashes, and reverts to flashing red when the main unit is unplugged.

I have an extra m5 unit. Substituted that for crashed m5 unit and same thing happened. Internet and deco mesh in building 1 is working with no hiccups. Laptop connected to ubiquiti nanobeam in building 2 is also connected to internet.

 A couple of notes. On initial install, the deco m5 in building 2 could only be installed as a separate LAN with separate name and password from deco mesh LAN in building 1. And in Deco app, devices in building 2 showed as connecting to both building 2 LAN and building 1 LAN.

I need guidance as to what settings to check and things to try.

  @Amark

Hi, welcome to the community.

Is your current network layout like this:

I noticed you mentioned that building 1 and 2 have different Wi-Fi SSIDs and passwords. Did you also set up two different mesh networks on the Deco APP for each building?

  • If they are indeed on two mesh networks, did both Deco Meshes work in wireless router mode?
  • I happen to see another post about the IP conflict, I think you could try to change the LAN IP on building 2 to something else, like 10.10.10.xxx.

And have there been any changes recently, like a firmware upgrade on Deco?

Thank you very much.

Wait for your reply.

best regards.

  @David-TP Hi. Thanks for the response. The setup is as per your diagram, except Nanobeam#1 is connected by ethernet to the main M5 unit. Starlink modem>m5>nanobeam#1. Not aware of any updates or other changes recently.

I did set up 2 different mesh networks on the Deco app, one for each building. (I had initially thought that the m5 in building 2 would become part of the mesh network in building 1, but when I was in building 2 the Deco app couldn't see that network. The app prompted me to create a new network when installing the m5 in building 2. I tried that and it worked.)

I think both Deco meshes were working in wireless router mode (and building 1 still is) . I believe I tried to set up access point mode in building 2, but the m5 just went to a red light. So I reverted to router mode.

I will try changing the Lan ip on building 2. I've read the post you linked and the suggestion to go with a static IP.  You suggest 10.10.10.xxx, and the linked post suggests 192.168.68.253.  Is there any difference in result from using one or the other? I can try and report back. Thanks for your help.

ps. Here is current info from Deco app about mesh network in building 1. Dynamic IP,  address 100.78.85.157, Subnet 255.192.0.0, default gateway 100.64.0.1, primary DNS 1.1.1.1, secondary DNS 8.8.8.8

DHCP server start ip 192.168.68.100, end ip 192.168.68.250, default gateway 192.168.68.1

  @Amark

Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback. Sorry for the delay.

If on the first Deco M5 network, you have the following IP settings:

Dynamic IP address 100.78.85.157/255.192.0.0,

default gateway 100.64.0.1,

DNS 1.1.1.1/ 8.8.8.8

LAN IP:192.168.68.1--Which is the default IP address of Deco

DHCP range:192.168.68.100-250

then the second M5 mesh, WAN IP address will be 192.168.68.xxx(192.168.68.253 is just an example to simplify the issue) which would conflict with the default LAN IP of Deco.

So it is suggested to change the LAN IP on the second M5 mesh to 10.10.10.xxx on the other post.

Is there any improvement to the current issue now?

Wait for your reply.

best regards.
