Hi

I have an AX90 which is AX6600 with 2 5G bands, 5G-1 1200Mbps, 5G-2 4804Mbps.

I bought a RE705X range extender which is 5GHz (2402 Mbps).

I use these in OneMesh configuration but it appears that OneMesh only allows use of the 5G-1 network on the AX90 which limits the connection speed to 1200Mbps which makes buying the higher end RE705X completely worthless as it can't be used to it's fullest.  I have tested them right next to each other and the speed in OneMesh info for the RE705X shows as 1200 Mbps.

It seems that if I bought the lower end AX55 router which is only AX3000 and has a single 2402 Mbps 5 GHz band then I would be able to use the RE705X at it's full speed of 2402 Mbps.

Why does TP-Link not allow OneMesh to use 5G-2 on the AX90 to be able to make full use of the bandwidth?

Thanks.

  @mikerusselltw

Hi,

I don't have a TP-Link tri-band router myself to test this, but maybe you could try the following if you'd like and then report back the result.

- completely remove the RE705X from the OneMesh network ("Leave OneMesh" on the AX90 and factory-reset on the RE705X)
- switch off the 5GHz-1 wireless radio (Advanced -> Wireless -> Wireless Settings)
- add the RE705X to the OneMesh network again
- verify that the 5 GHz wireless link is working at the expected speed of around 2400 Mbps
- switch on the 5GHz-1 wireless radio
- check whether the 5 GHz wireless link is still working at the expected speed or not

- if still okay, then reboot the AX90 and the RE705X to see if it sticks or not

@mikerusselltw I am having the same issue with the AX90 and RE815X, which personally I think is absurd. Why sell a tri-band router and a tri-band extender (totaling $500 investment) if they don't support OneMesh backhaul for the 5G-2 band?

Defeats the purpose of having the third band and destroys what would otherwise be a unified and seamless experience.

The engineering team is telling me that EasyMesh would solve this, but no timeline for Easymesh on the AX90.

Anyway we can push TP-Link to expedite these releases?
