Hello all,

Will PG2400P (Passthrough Powerline Kit) work with Deco PX50 (Whole Home Powerline Mesh WiFi 6 System)?

Both support G.hn Powerline, but I can't find anywhere which explicitly says they'll both work together.

(My reason for asking: I previously bought Deco P9 and TL-PA9020P thinking they would work together, but they do not...)

  @MatthewF Hi, Philbert is right. Even though they are both based on the G.hn, they could not be paired together.

Best regards.

Not 100% sure on this, but from experience its unlikely they will work together.

Generally found the Deco powerlines only work with other Deco powerline devices, not standard powerline adaptors.  Tad annoying, but suppose it keeps the Deco system contained :)

Thank-you for the reply David, just in time to cancel my order for a set of PX50s.

I'll go somewhere else.

Dear All,

this is exactly the configuration I´ve  purchased. It was disappointing on first sight, that it is not possible to directly integrate both PG2400P adapters to the Deco-Powerlan. A corresponding information would have been helpful here. Although I do not understand, why devices complying to the same standard (G.HN) should not work together. That´s what standards are made for. As you can see below, they work together......

My very old Fritzbox from AVM integrated with Homeplug AV-compatbile Powerlan Adapters (even from 3rd party) without any issues . So it should not be rocket science to find a solution here.

I´ve played a little bit.

There is a  work around to get at least one adapter working as AP. I´ve connected one PG2400P adapter to the LAN-port of the Main Deco PX50 and it works with the second Adapter as AP. So I have at least one adapter there, where I do not want having a WLAN device. Of course it would be great if the DECO network would recognize each adapter as its own Powerline-AP.

My experience is so far:

- The Windows Admin App for the PG2400P Adapters shows a working G.HN connection for both adapters, even if my Laptop was connected to the DECO WLAN. It was even possible to do the latest Firmware update on these adapters.

- The Android DECO-App recognizes both(!) PG2400P Adapters I have (when connected to DECO WLAN)

- The Powerline Adapter I can use as AP- works fine and is accessible even with devices connected with the DECO WLAN.

Would it possible to get the DECO-Powerline Network-Name to manually add it to the Admin App for the PG2400P Adapters? Maybe this would be an easy  solution. What do you think? I am pretty sure you would sell more PG2400p Adapters with DECO PX50 if both work together.

Thank you for getting into this topic and for any feedback.

Best regards

Chris

  @Philbert

It would certainly work.....  We maybe just would need to know the network-ID of DECO´s PowerLAN and add it manually within the Win-Admin-App of the PG2400P adapters as you would do it with another G.HN-Adapter.

The Deco Network recognizes the PG2400P´s in the Powerlan, at least according to that what I can see in the DECO´s Android Admin App. Please have a look at the screenshot from my initial posting.  I can use one of these two Adapters as access point within the same network. Basically it should work.

  @ChrisHaber

Hi, Deco APP is able to display all its DHCP clients. Since both PG2400Ps get IP addresses from Deco, it is normal that you can see them on the client list.

Normally, we say they are not compatible which mainly refers to the Mesh Backhaul part.

When the main PG2400P is wired behind Deco PX50, their communication is no longer based on G.hn powerline, but Ethernet cable. Then the second PG2400P connects to the mater PG2400P via G.hn powerline. This topology will work on many standard routers, and so does PX50.

I could not deny there must be a way to make PG2400P link with PX50 over G.hn powerline. But based on the current software design, they could not.

Best regards.

Thank you very much for your reply. " Then the second PG2400P connects to the mater PG2400P via G.hn powerline. ": Does this mean, that there are two separate G.hn connections in parallel in the same electric wiring? Maybe your colleagues can try out using the PX50-Powerline network name within the Admin-Tool for manual integration of PG2400P. Would be great if it works by accident. Best regards

  @MatthewF

I would also point out that using the PG2400P powerline kits on the same mains wiring as your Deco PX50 totally trashes the performance of the PG2400P network.

I have 4 of the PG2400P adapters around my house, all work very well and are all seen by the TP.Plc control app in Windows. If I turn on my newly acquired Deco PX50 units then my PG2400P adapters constantly loose connection and are mostly unseen by the TP.Plc admin app. Computers connected to the PG2400P adapters report "no connection" to the internet or any other device on my network.

All these problems disappear if I turn off the Deco PX50 units.

Since I was wanting to use the Deco PX50 units only as wifi access points and additions to my existing powerline network, I find it does neither of these things so will be returning them. The Deco PX50 units work well by themselves but just don't play nicely with other powerline adapters.

I was also disappointed to see that I cannot configure VLANs on the Deco units. Although VLANs are mentioned in the manual, they are only for the WAN connection & the user has no real control. Again disappointing as my home network splits family and guest access onto different VLANs.

  @MatthewF In theory, since both the PG2400P Passthrough Powerline Kit and the Deco PX50 Whole Home Powerline Mesh WiFi 6 System are built to support G.hn Powerline, they should be able to communicate. However, real-world compatibility might be influenced by a variety of factors like specific implementation details by TP-Link. I am not saying they are using it but there might be different encryption or compression algorithms. PLC must carry backhaul communication, such as automatic channel selection algorithms, and advanced radio resource management mechanisms. These factors might prevent the integration of the PG2400P into an existing network.
