The stupid app would get the latest firmware, so I manually downloaded and installed it on each AP with zero issues.  Not sure what the point is of having the app check for updates if it comes back and says there are non when there are.

Any hoodle, still the best bang for the buck out there, hopefully, I didn't just give CN access to my network.
