Model: Archer C80
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Good day Troops,

I have a two level house and generally have not great conevctivty through the house.

I bnought 4 new Archer C80 wirless routers and I want to interconjnect them

The main router connects to the Cable Modem for WAN Access and I have the Lan set up as 192.168.123.1, 255.255.255.0,192.168.123.1

This Router has DNS set to 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1, the DHCP is set to hand out IP's  from 192.168.123.100 to 192.168.123.200 with renews at 1440

I have the ssid for 2.4 Ghz set to darcy24 and the 5 Ghz is set to darcy5  - I Know I can set SSID the same, But I prefer to set them appart as some devices I want on the 2.4 and some I want on the 5

I have a hard connection to a lan port on the second router from a lan port on the first router

I left the wan port open and did not configure wan.  I set lan to 192.168.123.2, 255.255.255.0, 192.168.123.1

DHCP is off as It should grab it from the first router

I have wirless set up same as router 1 (same ssid's)

I have a hard connection to a lan port on the third router from a lan port on the second router

I left the wan port open and did not configure wan.  I set lan to 192.168.123.3, 255.255.255.0, 192.168.123.1

DHCP is off as It should grab it from the first router

I have wirless set up same as router 1 (same ssid's)

I have a hard connection to a lan port on the fourth router from a lan port on the third router

I left the wan port open and did not configure wan.  I set lan to 192.168.123.4, 255.255.255.0, 192.168.123.1

DHCP is off as It should grab it from the first router

I have wirless set up same as router 1 (same ssid's)

You may be asking why I used routers intestad of wirless extenders - That is becasue I also need physical ports at these points for devices that are not wireless.

Does this look right?

Should I (can I) set routers 2,3 and 4 to AP mode and go from Router 1 Lan to Router 2 WAN, Router 2 lan to router 3 WAN, router 3 lan to Router 4 WAN and still have all units get DHCP from Router 1?

So I kind of have the main router connected to Wan, then the other three set up as wirless extentions and lan switches using router 1 for DHCP leases.

Thanx for your advise.

darcy

This looks right, but it's better to do the latter - set routers 2,3 and 4 to AP mode (Case 1) and connect Router 1 LAN to Router 2 WAN, Router 2 LAN to router 3 WAN, router 3 LAN to Router 4 WAN and still have all units get DHCP from Router 1.

Thus you'll have 1 more LAN port available on routers 2,3 and 4 for ethernet cable connected devices and that is the proper configuration in case of C80.

@terziyski No, I could not make that work becasue WAN and LAN/WLAN can't be on the same subnets so going from Router 1 Lan port to router 2/3/4 WAN port wont work with the DHCP from router 1.  So I left it as is from Lan to Lan and It seems to be working in router mode, could not get AP mode to work.

This should work for certain if you have configured Router 2,3,4 in AP mode first and after that set their IP addresses.

In AP mode WAN port receives the LAN IP address configured on the device.

Refer the blue hyperlink in my previous post on how to configure the device in AP mode.
