Model: Archer MR600
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.5.0 0.9.1 v0001.0 Build 210914 Rel.59719n

Hello,

I have recently moved to an MR600 from the EE 4GEE device I've had for a number of years in the UK. The MR600 is really good and has better bandwidth than my earlier device ... but:

I have both IPV6 and IPV4 devices in the house and for many years have used the IPV4V6 setting on the 4GEE device. This gave me both IPV6 addressing and IPV4 addressing on most devices. For the MR600 it has three PDP settings: IPv4, IPv4 & IPv6 and IPv6:

  • IPv4 gives me IPv4 connectivity but no IPv6 as expected.
  • Likewise IPv6 gives me IPv6 but no IPv4 again as expected.
  • However, IPv4 & IPv6 only gives me an IPv6 address for the connection. I don't get a corresponding IPv4 address and therefore my IPv4 only devices in the house and external websites that only support IPv4 cannot communicate beyond the house network - there is no gateway for them to communicate with and no functioning IPv4 dns on the MR600.

Given that I know this is possible - it's worked for years with my EE 4GEE device, I don't understand why the MR600 isn't supporting this dual stack approach properly. How do I report this as a bug? The EE 4G network is a full IPv6 network with a 464xlat implementation to enable dual stack.

Many thanks,

Mark

@BleatingSheep

Thank you so much for your feedback.

Our device currently does not support 464xlat. When you use IPv4 only, except that you can't get IPv6 address, do you have other internet connection problem?

By the way our senior engineer they have plan to work out a firmware to support 464xlat, but we are not sure when. Once we finish, we will put it on our official website right away. It is recommended to pay attention to the firmware update on our website.

@TP-Link That's really helpful - thanks for your response. I will watch out for firmware updates. Based on a number of queries about this in on-line forums, there are a number of MR600 users who would benefit from the 464xlat functionality being added. What I don't understand is how my 5 year old 4GEE router is able to get an IPv6 address and an IPv4 address at the same time and the MR600 can't. I hope the 464xlat support fixes this.

From a usability point of view the main reason I want IPv6 is to deal with the issues that double NAT of IPv4 on EE's 4G network introduce.

Many thanks,

Mark
