Model: TL-WA1201
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.01 Build 20200709 rel.66244(4555)

I can see AP isolation works for devices on the 2.4Ghz band and also for devices on the 5ghz band i.e. no devices on a band can ping other devices on the same band. However, it appears there's no isolation between bands i.e. devices on the 2.4Ghz band can ping devices on the 5Ghz band and visa-versa.

Surely the point of AP isolation should be for the whole AP and not just single bands? Is this something that is coming down the line as a feature anyone has heard of?

Thanks

@Markirl

That's pretty much the AP isolation algorithm of all TP-Link wireless devices - there's no AP isolation between bands, only within bands.

@Solla-topee Hi, Yes I'm using the AP in AP mode. I'm aware of everything going through the router being accessible to any devices connected to it. In this case what I've done is put IOT devices on the 2.4Ghz band and none of them can see each other. I have personal devices connected to the 5Ghz and equally, they cannot see each other. The problem/feature request was that the AP currently does no isolation between the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz on the AP.

I know the above can be achieved with VLAN's etc. but I thought that seeing as the AP has the ability to isolate devices intra-band, could it be possible to extend that isolation to between the two bands that the AP broadcasts?

Hello @Markirl

Thank you for the explanation, as I learned about Router's AP isolation design is like @terziyski  said, there's no AP isolation between 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz bands, only within bands, this could be same for the SOHO AP products.  I will double-check this with our team and get to you later.

Hello@Markirl

Thank you for your patience. As confirmed, that's the current design of AP isolation design on the  Access Point.

 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz Wi-Fi are not isolated, but Wi-Fi devices within the same Wi-Fi bands are isolated.

I appreciate your suggestion, we would record your suggestion first for our team further evaluation.

If any user request the same feature,  please leave the model & hardware version below, that will help with the evaluation,  thank you.
