Archer VR600 v2 - need a compatible 4G dongle

Hi - my ADSL broadband has disappeared for 2 weeks so I am trying to use the 4G dongle router mode of my device to access the internet in the meantime. I found a list of compatible dongles for v3 devices and tried one (Huawei E3372h-320) but it does not work with v2 devices. After a long time on live chat I managed to update the firmware as above but this didn't help.
The best advice the agent could give was either a) stop using the TP Link router and use one from another brand (!), or b) try a different 4G dongle but with no steer at all as to what types would work.
Has anyone successfully used a 4G dongle with a VR600 v2? Or does anyone know what dongle I should try next?
