The modem that your ISP provided has a MAC address that is bound to your account. Your ISP will only allow a device with that MAC ID to access the internet. MAC ID cloning is used when you want to replace your ISP-provided modem with another modem that you have purchased somewhere else. If you do this, then your ISP's authentication software thinks that it is still your old (approved) modem.

What kind of connection have you got between your computer(s) and your ISP? ADSL/cable/ethernet.... etc. Is there any kind of device that your ISP has put inside your house from where you get internet connection?

Step 1

Ah! And what do you have to do to connect to the internet? Do you need to log in with a username and password, or are you always connected?

If you are always connected, it should be enough that you note down the MAC ID of the network adapter in your computer (where the cable from the ISP was previously connected) and clone this to the MAC ID of the router. So when the cable is plugged into your router, the ISP thinks it is still connected to your computer.

If you also have to log in each time using a username and password, you'll need to enter this information in the WAN section after selecting the proper WAN connection type. PPPoE seems to be the most commonly used, so try that first.

Perhaps your computer is set up with a static IP address (maybe your ISP set this up for you). Go to the wired network adapter properties and double click on IPv4. Note down the IP addresses that are entered there (you will need these later) (taking a screenshot of that dialog is the best way - press 'print screen' on your keyboard, open Paint, and paste, then save) and change the settings to 'obtain an IP address automatically'. and 'obtain a DNS address automatically'. I have in my room just a cable of my internet provider (without modem, swich ..............) And when i plug that cable into my computer i have internet ..... that is. I'm with a dinamic IP, not a static ..... My internet provider told me that to do wireless net i have to clone my MAC address to my router, nothing more .... And this is supposed to be very easy .... MAC address cloning is online at http :/ / tplinklogin.net .......as written on the router box and instructions too .... But just do not load the link above, this is my problem ... I can not clone a MAC of the router
