Model: Archer AX20
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.0 Build 20200326 rel.63489(5553)

Hi TP-Link,

My AX20 Hardware Version is 1.2.

I encountered problem to ping or use 1.1.1.1 DNS after connected to Internet.

I found that the predefined route for 1.0.0.0/8 to gw 0.0.0.0 via WAN Interface.

That's why I cannot use 1.1.1.1 DNS at all.

Why there is predefined static route in the router AX20?

and the public IP to gw 0.0.0.0 via Interface INTERNET routing also should not be there..

is this a bugs?

Please find the image below for the active routing table.

Please help.

@Kevin_Z

I found the bugs.

Internet connection mode by default is set as Auto mode.

It is because I changed the Network > Internet Settings > Connection Mode from "Auto" to "On Demand (0 Minutes)"

After someone told me in the Lowyat.net forum, this is a bug. Have to use Connection Mode "Auto"

If the connection mode in "On Demand" and DNS configured to use 1.1.1.1, it will cause the 1.0.0.0/8 route auto added in the routing table.

After I changed back to Connection Mode "Auto", I rebooted the WiFi router 10 times and also never saw the 1.0.0.0/8 route in the routing table.

Can you let me know what the meaning of Connection Mode Auto is? Will the Internet connection drop randomly in Auto mode?

Kindly please raise this bug to your internal technical team. This happens in the AX20 model.

And get this fix in the next firmware release.

@Ivaylo

no static route add in the router

everything by default now

Currently, only 1 WAN link is connected to the wifi router.

I'm using Unifi profile for the Internet connection.

wifi 2.4GHz & 5GHz, MIMO & ODMA are enabled.

Also enabled dynamic DNS by using tp-link login

Previously, internet connection with specified DNS 8.8.8.8 & 1.1.1.1, because of the 1.0.0.0/8 route, I cannot resolve DNS from 1.1.1.1..

it causes my webpage only can load content but not image or video..

now I changed it to 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4

All configuration is basic configuration now..

not sure why the 1.0.0.0/8 appeared in routing tables..

Public IP address via default GW 0.0.0.0 in the routing table is normal. The other route 1.0.0.0/8 via WAN is the interesting one. Could it be from your attempt to add the 1.1.1.1 as a DNS ? Where do you add the 1.1.1.1 as a DNS - DHCP server or Internet settings ? Is there any error message that you are receiving ?

@Ivaylo

hi, I added the DNS server in Internet option.

DHCP server I didn't add the DNS settings. I leave as default.

currently, I already changed to 8.8.8.8 (primary) & 8.8.4.4 (secondary)

but the 1.0.0.0/8 routing still there..

is it I put the wrong configuration?

Try to set the DNS 1.1.1.1 in DHCP server settings. In Internet options - set Get Dynamically from ISP, reboot the router and see if 1.0.0.0/8 route is gone, then do some browsing test.

@Ivaylo

I tried one method can remove the route..

I added one route 1.0.0.0/8 to public ip gw via interface LAN/WLAN, then enabled and disabled it

when disabled it, the existing 1.0.0.0/8 will be gone.

but this solution only for current state, if I reboot the router, the same 1.0.0.0/8 will be appeared.

don't know what's wrong on that.

need to try factory reset?

You can try that as well, if it's not too much of an effort configuring it from scratch. Then you can observe if the 1.0.0.0/8 route will be there after resetting to factory defaults.

@Ivaylo

I just did the factory reset, at first the 1.0.0.0/8 route is not there..

after I configured the router, i try reboot again..

1.0.0.0/8 route is added back in routing table again..

really don't know what's wrong..

the temporary solution is add new static route 1.0.0.0/8 to public ip gw via LAN/WLAN, enabled & disabled.

The system generate 1.0.0.0/8 will be removed.. because of the new route that i added override the system route..

I guess this is a bugs from the firmware, are you from TP-Link support? can this issue file to the support team?

@Woody

So, your configuration done from scratch, has nothing to do with the 1.0.0.0/8 route, right ?

Sorry, no, I am not with the TP-Link support, but I believe @Kevin_Z can advise on that, when he sees that thread.

@Ivaylo

Yes, done from scratch..

only set the dns settings in dhcp server now.

internet dns leave it automatically

i don't think the dhcp server settings will change the routing.

it is weird, don't know why the 1.0.0.0/8 will auto generated..
