Model: TL-WR840N
Hardware Version: V6
Firmware Version:

I have recently bought a router (TL-WR840N), which I want to provide wifi access to my smart Panasonic TV upstairs. When I try to connect to the internet via the router it does not appear as a wifi source on the TV. My old router appeared as available on the TV without me having to do anything.  Are there steps I have to take to make the router an option as an internet source on the TV?

Hello, is the internet configured successfully on the WR840N already? Ensure the Wi-Fi LED is flashing green, you may refer to the User Guide to locate it:

https://static.tp-link.com/2018/201802/20180202/1910012351_TL-WR840N_UG_V6.pdf

Check if you can find the wireless network on other smart devices, such as your smartphone or laptop if the wireless LED is flashing correctly.

If still no success, login to the router's web GUI to confirm the wireless network name and password, change them if necessary then confirm:

Meanwhile, you can also try to change the wireless channel on the router to 1/6/11, save and reboot the router.

The next time I checked the TV the TP-Link connection was available. All is now O.K. Thanks for your reply.
