Model: Archer C6
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.3.0

Hi,

I can't connect PPTP VPN Server where configured on Archer C6.

I followed the manual(User guide Chapter 12.2) to configure PPTP VPN server in C6 using No-IP DDNS. my DDNS can be sent a ping from my PC and successfully bound to the router.

Also, I have configured PPTP VPN Client on Windows 10 PC so that I can connect C6 from outside.

I'm sure I double checked the configuration without missing or typo, but I can't connect C6 to use PPTP VPN with the error message below.

So can you please advise me how to solve this situation?

@Shun

Hello, sorry to hear that you are encountering an issue with the PPTP VPN setup on the C6. Please help verify some details and we will try to figure it out:

1. Kindly check the below VPN setup instructions again to confirm all the settings on the C6 are correct:
https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1545/
BTW, please also provide us your network topology.

2. Please check the VPN Tunnel: login the web interface, and on the VPN Server-> VPN Connections, we can see the status of the VPN Server, confirm if there is a VPN connection enabled. If not, which means the VPN setup is not successful.

3. Check the Firewall and Anti-Virus software on the server: generally, Windows Firewall would block the packages from the VPN Client, disabling the firewall on Windows PC for "public" and "private" network will be helpful. Windows Firewall is located at "Control panel->System and Security->Windows Firewall/Windows Defender Firewall".

Hopefully, that answers your question but let us know if you need more details.

@Kevin_Z  Thank you so much for prompt response.

Please see my answers below for your questions.

1. Yes, I double comfirmed my VPN settings followed by the instructions but it seems set up correctly.(Sorry for description is in Japanese but I believe you can understand the settings)

My network topology is very simple.

I have a NAS and PC which is connecting to C6 LAN (home) network(192.168.xxx) and WAN port is connecting to Internet modem directly.

In this topology, I would like to access my home NAS and PC from outside so I'm trying to configure VPN connection.

2. I can't see any VPN connection, so VPN setup is not successful...

3. I turned off the firewalls and anti-virus software both Home and remote PC and tried to make VPN connection but the same error occurred.

Since I am not a specialist of networking technology, I have no idea how to fix this situation. So I appreciate if you can provide more advises, thanks.

Best regards,

Ito

@JustFiesta

What's the WAN IP address now on the AX1500? When you try to connect to the VPN server from outside, was there an error message?

The first thing to check is if the IP address of the AX1500's "Internet" connection is a public or a private IPv4 address. You can see that "Internet" IP address right after you login to the web GUI via a browser and scroll down a bit. If that IP address falls within any of the following IP address ranges, then your AX1500 is not being assigned a public IP address, which means you can't just easily reach it via the Internet:
10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
100.64.0.0 - 100.127.255.255

Secondly, please check the VPN Tunnel: login the web interface, and on the VPN Server-> VPN Connections, confirm if there is a VPN connection enabled and show us the status.

Follow the guide again to reconfigure the VPN server on the AX1500:
https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1544/

After that, please confirm if you can ping the IP of the AX1500 and the server from the outside.

@Kevin_Z

Problem solved.

First I've changed internal address becouse it was same as in other LAN - that could'be been problem.

After that VPN connection still couldn't be established. Routing wasn't working as tracert showed me. So I added entry witch directed move from Internet to LAN (192.168.1.0) and After that VPN could connect.

Yes, I have public address assigned, it's dynamic but After turning on DDNS everything worked well.
