Model: RE505X
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.7 Build 20200604 Rel. 130850 (6985)

Hi:

Today I've purchased a RE505X with the idea of using it as an access point, not as a range extender. To my surprise, when I've tried to configure the WiFi signals, it doesn't allow to choose 802.11ax as a mode, neither in the 2.4 GHz band nor in the 5 GHz one.

In the 2.4 GHz band, it shows these options:

  •  802.11n only
  •  802.11b/g mixed
  •  802.11b/g/n mixed

In the 5 GHz band, only these:

  • 802.11ac only
  • 802.11n/ac mixed
  • 802.11a/n/ac mixed

Why is it? Can you help me, please?

Thank you.

Hi all.

The latest firmware has fixed this issue and RE505X  (AP Mode)  has" 802.11ax " as an option now

Here is the firmware :

@negora

Good day.

Sorry for the delay.

Can I have a picture of the screen-shot which showed there is no ax mode on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz here?

What is the model number of your home router, by the way?

Just for a test, if you set it up a range extender, are you able to see the ax mode?

Thank you very much.

@Solla-topee

Hi, and thanks for your prompt answer.

These are the values of the "Mode" field in the 2.4 GHz band:

And here are the values in the 5 GHz band:

As you can see, there is not trace of "802.11ax" anywhere.

Unfortunately, I can't try the "802.11ax" protocol in the repeater mode, because I've not a router or other AP that supports such protocol. Indeed, I've bought this AP to be able to upgrade to WiFi 6 without buying an expensive router. I'm happy with the one that I've.

Thank you.

@gorisrael

Thank you for your answer.

I've configured the AP using the web interface of the device. I've not tried TP-Link Cloud yet, because I don't trust having a "middle-man" to manage my network. But I guess I'll have to give it a try if I don't find a solution.

@gorisrael

OK, I've logged-in in the AP using my TP-Link Clud account. Then, I've installed the TP-Link Tether app in my mobile phone. But, unfortunately, it only allows me to set some basic features of the WiFi network: Network name, Security, Password and Hide SSD. No possibility of changing the "Mode" (the protocol).

Has anyone a clue about whether it's a hardware limitation or intentional?

Thank you.

@negora  Hello,

I have the same problem.

No 802.11ax !

Why ???

Maybe 802.11ax is just for repeater mode ?

I can't test with my 802.11ac rooter

@pbalaye I hope it's just a silly bug, and not a hardware limitation. It would be interesting to know which chipset is used by the RE505X.

Anyone from the staff of TP-Link has a solution to this? Thank you.

@pbalaye @@negora

Good day,

Thank you very much for your time and patience.

Sorry for the delay.

Did you still have the same issue about the RE505x?

And after checking with the senior engineers, it did support 802.11AX mode on the access point mode but it just did not have this option on the web interface.

And if you use the Wi-Fi analyzer, you will see it also works on the 802.11AX mod, and If you check the link speed on the AX compatible devices, the wireless link speed would also be up to AX standard.

Really sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks a lot for your understanding and support.

@Solla-topee Unfortunately, since I didn't get any answer from TP-Link, I had to return the device to the seller and buy another model from another brand.

I don't understand this. Taking into account that neither the Web GUI nor TP-Link Tether exposed the option to choose 802.11ax, How was the RE505X supposed to operate in 802.11ax mode? It could operate in 802.11ac mode as much.

Thank you!
