I am trying to set up connection alerts to diagnose a problem with my heating system. I turn "known device alerts" on, add a new alert, select the device, select online/offline/both etc., select "Done" and it flashes up "Unable to create the alert, please try again".

Update:

Recently we had some feedback that when trying to set up connection alerts under wireless router mode(NOT on the Access point mode), Deco APP would report "Unable to create the alert. Please try again"

After further troubleshooting with senior engineers, several cases are caused by the temporary network delay. it would automatically restore later.

So later if you happen to have the same issue, please switch to 4G mobile data on the smartphone and try to set up connection alerts again.

If somehow the issue occurred quite frequently, please refer to the following link and help me submit the APP log

How to submit Deco APP log

Thank you very much.

@Meshdave

Hello,

May I know is the Deco M5 is working as a router or an Access Point? Please ensure it is working as a router, otherwise the Connection Alerts will not work.

Good days.

@TP-Link_Deco it is indeed setup as an access point. This is a silly restriction. Why on earth can't we use alerts for known devices on an access point? It has no problem alerting for new devices. And even if you won't support that, it should say "can't set alerts in access point mode", not "that didn't work, try again".

All good points @Meshdave, I see TP-Link takes your feedback very seriously by not replying on your input. So why offer the user to set something in the user interface which doesn’t work?

@Meshdave When will the alert for Access Point mode will be available?

I think this is very important!

@andrefonseca

Thank you very much for your kind feedback.

We have reported this feedbacks to the engineers already for further tests.

And now since there are different types of feedback related to the connection alerts, could you please check which one is more like yours:

  1. When choosing ‘device goes online and offline’, the error message showed: unable to create and please try again;------I have tested on my side and the same error showed up but the profile has been saved anyway. (Did you get the same result as well?)
  2. There are only connection alerts for known devices, not working for unknown devices;
  3. The connection alerts work on the router mode but not on the access point mode;--some customers reported they could get the alerts on the AP mode;
  4. there would be alerts via the message box on the APP, but did not push to email or smartphone;

and if you had the same feedback, Please feel free to update here with more details.

Thanks a lot and wait for your reply.

@TP-Link I just tried this again, still running in AP mode. I still get the error message "unable to create please try again" and it does not add the entry, I have no alerts set, so I do not get any notifications. I am on the latest firmware.
