Thinking right now of taking back the router to shop and pick something from asus or even mikrotik which i have used for many years.

I did change wifi settings but still no luck. Right now did set everything back to auto and the same...

I have fttp 900.

Check router is using channel width 160mhz and DFS channel and MIMO enabled. Also disable any power saving on your devices.

In my experience actual throughput of wifi device is roughly half the link speed. So for example if your device is linking at 866mbps you will get approx 400-500. 

On my new laptop I can get 800mbps (1.7gbps ac 9560 adapter) with my wifi6 ax50 router.

Just for info. Do not get AX50/AX3000 router. Firmware is poor.

I can't go above 80MHz it is the last one. And there is no power saving on my tv, phone. When I go to my brothers place. He uses ubiquity ac pro and he as well has 1Gb/s inet connection. Through his AP i can achieve 1Gb/s on 5GHz.
There is deffinetly something from with tp-link software or hardware or even with my configuration, but right now i have set everything at auto.

Out of ideas. I agree probably firmware problem. I know with mine on auto it will not link at fastest speed. It always chooses a non DFS channel so speed is slow. I can only get faster if I manually select a DFS channel in the advanced settings, save and reboot.

@WhiteStar Well, S9 doesn't support WiFi 6 and, in previous WiFi specifications, 2.4 GHz band is very poor (it's normal to get max 150Mbps) plus crowded. So that's ok.

Now, using 5GHz WiFi ac. WiFi protocol is half duplex, meaning the link speed (975Mbps) is shared for transmission and reception, you can't transmit while waiting for a response. Given the way Internet protocols work that means the average is a little more than half the max speed.

I guess you should be able to achieve at most 480 Mbps close to the router, that's the usual figure for high-end WiFi 5 mobile devices. 250Mbps is pretty nice anyway for a mobile phone.

Samsung Galaxy S10 supports WiFi 6, with that you'd get quite better wireless speeds if you really need it.

Moved router closer to TV now through wifi it gets around 200 Mb/s can now enjoy 4K through wifi no need for cable. Yeah, 250Mb/s is nice, that still isn't even close to 500Mb/s...


But will repeat what I wrote already. Through UBNT AC PRO which doesn't have AX as well I can push above 900Mb/s...

I missed that part, sorry :) 

That access point has 3x3 MIMO antennas (that's why it's that expensive being just WiFi 5), and S9 has 4x4 MIMO, so the max link speed should be around 1200Mbps (around 400Mbps per antenna, counting the device with less antennas). Real speed, well, depends always on environment, but could be quite high indeed.

However, I don't think the AX1500 has 3X3 MIMO, in fact they don't even announce the WiFi ac speed, so my guess is it's a standard 2x2 MIMO which limits links to around 860Mbps and the speed in practice to less than 500Mbps. Maybe it doesn't even support two streams and the link is just 433Mbps in WiFi ac, that would explain the 250Mbps real speed you see in your S9.

Indeed a good question, I wonder what's the max link speed using WiFi ac in TP-Link AX1500.

Anyway, AX1500 is a cheap / entry level WiFi 6 router and one cannot pretend it's at the same level as a specific top class more expensive device which its sole purpose is to be a great WiFi 5 access point.

I have had 6 tplink routers in my house, all very good, in particular the TL-WR1043ND which worked excellent for years at home.
I bought my first Wifi6 router, the AX1500 Version 1 less than a year ago... the performance has been less than the 1043ND (which was only 450MBites).

Weeks trying to solve it and as I could not leave the kids without their classes nor me with my telework, I bought and installed momentarily the Huawei AX30 to get out of the way; it is very cheap .... It has almost no parameters, just connect, and the speed flew, it gives me the full speed of my ISP of 600 MBites on my mobile.

Then I tried to put the AX1500 as an access point and I still have the same problems of negligible speeds on 2MHz, and on 5 MHz very changeable... I have connected on the ethernet gateways and run iperf3, getting 940MBite and no tx/rx errors... so the wired network is fine... It is then the AX1500 that is very bad its WIFI... may be its firmware or Hardware... but as it has been so long without warning by TP-Link.... Even shortly after they released the AX1500 Version 1.2 it seems to me that there must be an error in the hardware and they are not willing to change all the equipment.

And yes... my mobile is samsung S9+; i have no issues with iphone 8 and Samsbung S20+
