Hi everyone, hope you are doing well.

Since i have 1Gbps connection at home i have decided to order new archer c80 ac1900 router. While using wired conection there are no issues and i get all the speed that im provided with. BUT if i conect to 2.4G then instead of up to 600Mbps im getting only up to 100Mbps as well as if i conect to 5G instead of up to 1.3Gbps im geting only up to 500Mbps.

Thought it would be nice to post such info here:)

Also i have tried changing wi-fi seting allot yet nothing helped.

@BagiBoom

Hi, the 600Mbps and 1.3Gbps are the wireless link speed in PHY layer, which is not the actual speed you can get.

The wifi speed is affected by many factors, including the capability of the main router, distance, obstacles and so on. With your device connected to the 2.4GHz/5GHz, please click here to check the wireless negotiation speed. FYI, the actual speed is about 60% of the wireless negotiation speed.

You can change the wireless settings on the C80 to improve wifi performance. Like wireless channel and channel width. You can use channel 1, 6 and 11, channel width 40MHz for 2.4GHz, and channel 36, 40 and 44, channel width 80MHz for 5GHz.

And please ensure that the firmware is up to date.

Good day.

@BagiBoom In addition to Kevin's response, you need a very good device with multiple antennas to get the most out of the wireless link.

My mobile phone limit is around 120 Mbps, an iPhone XR doesn't get more than 400 Mbps or so, and with recent MacBooks you could get around 800 Mbps.

Take into account that WiFi is half duplex, bandwidth is shared for transmission and reception as both can't happen at the same time, so even if the link is X Mbps, it doesn't mean it is transmitting all the time, part of the time it's transmitting at X Mbps, and part 0 Mbps because it is waiting and receiving acknowledgements or other data. So the average transmission speed is lower, up to 50%, but the 60% figure is more realistic.
