Slow download speeds

Hardware Version : Not Clear
Firmware Version :
ISP : Virgin cable
The poweline utility shows a speed of over 190 mbps but my download speed is around 45-50 mbps
and have a service speed of 100 mbps with Virgin.
Had engineer out cant find fault with line & suggested I try a long direct Ethernet cable to test router performance.
So I purchased a 30 Metre (90 feet) ethernet cable (ony cost £3.95 bargain) and straight away got speeds of 100 - 102 mbps ?
Why is Powerline only getting 50 percent ??????
Any Ideas ?
