Model: Archer A7
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.0.11

I upgraded my Comcast/Xfinity connection to gigabit speed.  When I connect (cat5e) directly to the modem (Motorola MB8600), I'm seeing speed in the 700 - 800 mbits/sec.  When I connect the router to the modem and my computer to the router, my speed drops to 300 - 350 mbits/sec.  Any suggestions on why the speed is so slow through the router?

@jas00

We will do some troubleshooting to locate this issue and try to fix it.

What is the current network topology?

Without any devices connected, please connect one computer to the A7 and run the speed test for 3 times and show us the screenshots of the test results.

Note: Please test the wired speed and wireless speed from Archer A7 both.

And please click here to get the wired/wireless negotiation speed. https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2265/

Meanwhile, please check the information mentioned above with your device connected to the modem directly so that we can do a comparison analysis.

Have you ever enabled QoS on the Archer A7? If so, try to disable it ( or leave it by default) and then test the speed.

You can refer to the below instruction to narrow down the issue as well.

@Kevin_Z

Before I run further tests, I have some questions and comments:

I've been using speedtest.net and speedtest.xfinity.com.  Is there a speedtest that you prefer I use for testing?

My network clients are mostly wired.  All of my testing has been with wired devices (all at 1 Gbit).  My only wireless devices are smartphones that I don't expect high performance from.

My configuration has QoS off.  Also, I'm sending a backup file of my configuration, in case there are some settings that may limit speed.

I really hope we can isolate the cause of slow speed as I really like this router and would hate to have to switch to a different router.  I'll provide further details and test results as soon as I can.

@Kevin_Z

I tested wired connection in two configurations:

First Config:  Motorola MB8600 Modem ---> Archer A7 ---> Netgear GS205 gigabit switch ---> Windows 10 pro, i7 desktop wired computer.

1st test:  289.4 Mbits down / 40.0 Mbits up

2nd test:  342.9 Mbits down / 40.0 Mbits up

3rd test:  315.1 Mbits down / 38.6 Mbits up

Second Config:  Motorola MB8600 Modem ---> Netgear GS205 gigabit switch ---> Windows 10 pro, i7 desktop wired computer.

1st test:  798.5 Mbits down / 39.2 Mbits up

2nd test:  809.7 Mbits down / 37.5 Mbits up

3rd test:  807.7 Mbits down / 39.8 Mbits up

For all tests, only the wired switch and computer were connected to the router.  I haven't tested wireless as I rarely use wireless for anything other than smartphones.

My comcast service is gigabit down / 35 Mbit up.

QoS is off in the router for all tests.

I've attached the screen capture for 1st test with Archer A7.  I'll attach the others in subsequent replies.

Hi, thanks for your valued reply.

Please try to simplify the network diagram to test the speed. Please connect them like this:  Motorola MB8600 Modem ---> Archer A7---> Windows 10 pro, i7 desktop wired computer.

After that, please run a speed test on your wired device and verify whether the speed goes normal. Please click here to get the wired negotiation speed as well.

Note: Steps are the same, while you need click on ethernet connection.

Thanks in advance, and have a nice day.
