Recently i had bought a 4TG Western Digital external USB Hard drive and try to connect it to WDR-4300 router, so that i can use it as a storage sharing space within the LAN. However, the router cannot detect it at all. If i tried plug in another 1TG hard drive, the router can detect it immediately and there is no issue. I wonder if the router has limitation on the USB support in term of hard drive size?

I look at the user manual together with the tech spec, and there is no such limitation at all.

anyone has similar issue as I do?

system files like FAT/FAT32/NTFS are supported by their routers. The hard drive can be maximum 2TB*8.

my hard drive has NTFS. Does it mean the maximum size it can support is up to 2TB only?

I'm also incredibly disappointed that I can't use a 3TB drive with my new router.

Drives that are 2TB or less use MBR partitions while drives that are over 2TB use GPT partitions. TP-Link routers apparently don't support GPT.

Is there a beta firmware or a 3rd party firmware with GPT support?

Just make a few partition under 2 Tb and that's it! Work!
