Wdr4300, cant connect to internet

Hi i just bought a WDR4300. tried the quick start, then tried to manually set it up like my old Router. but i cant connect to the internet. when i check the status. it often says that WAN is unplugged, no cable. But when i use same cabels and settings on my old router it works fin.
can the router be faulty.
hope for some advice.
