Disknames changed and Time machine not working

1. We cannot connect & Backup to USB attached backup Harddisks using Time Machine.
Time machine does not see the disk(s) (using USB2, 3 or hub), however they are mounted in Finder.
Using Systempreferences -> Time Machine -> select backupdisk: no disks visible.
Any solutions
The names of the Harddisks are sda2, sdb2, sdc2 and not the original harddisk names.
Can we change this?
