How to set up 3G/4G/5G Backup
In the Deco Mesh family, there are two types of 3G/4G/5G Backup:
3G/4G/5G Backup over SIM card
How to set up: How to set up 3G/4G or 4G/5G Backup on Deco router
3G/4G/5G Backup over USB modem/dongle

How the Failover works
After enabling Backup under router mode, it will use Ethernet WAN(or DSL WAN on Deco X73-DSL) as the main internet, when main WAN fails, it will failover to 3G/4G Backup automatically, and when Ethernet WAN recovers, it will also switch back to the main internet automatically. The actual failover detection is determined by both Deco and LTE broadband connections. Usually, it might take about 1 minute.
However, in some cases, you might have the following issues:
- When the main WAN fails, it does not failover to 3G/4G Backup automatically
- When the main WAN fails, it failover to 3G/4G backup successfully, however, when the main recovers, it still stays on the backup internet.
The following troubleshooting steps could help you fix this issue:
1. Make sure the Backup 3G/4G/5G WAN connects to the internet all the time.
- (For Deco-4G/5G gateway routers)Change Deco into 3G/4G/5G router mode and make sure you could have internet over the same SIM card.
- (For Deco X73-DSL)plug the USB dongle into a laptop and make sure the laptop is able to get an internet connection directly.
2. Change Offline Detection from the default Single Detection to Dual Detection, then set IPv4 Ping to monitor internet status.
3. Contact us with the following information
1) The model number of the front device that connects to the WAN port of the main Deco.
2) Whether the front device is working as a bridge modem or modem-router combo.
3) How do you test the failover, for example, physically disconnecting the WAN connection from the main Deco or physical connection is always connected but the internet service is down?
