Hardware: Archer C5400 v2.0
Firmware: 1.2.0 Build 20170630 rel.49653(4A50)
This is a 3 week old router with the latest firmware.
I was shocked that all settings on my new Archer c5400 were erased when I unplugged the router briefly to re arrange few items on the shelf.
I'm setting this router in my parents house and they have no knowledge about computers. I selected this model because of the VPN option.
Now if they have an outage, they will end up with no internet connection if this router get reset to factory default.
Any idea why this happen? I have never experienced this before with any router that I have owned either personally or for work.
How can avoid this? I have a back config file but If the VPN dose not work, then I will not be able to access the router.
Any advice is muc appreciated

Haven't gotten similar issues. That's really weird. Maybe some settings on the router would affect? If you only change the wireless settings on C5400 and don't connect other devices to it, will it also reset after you unplug power cable? Are you using the cloud feature?

Yes, it is strange. When i unplugged and plugged back, all information where lost including the wifi settings, LAN setting, VPN, virtual server, etc. It even asked me to enter my password just like it did when I first purchased it.
I have a cloud account and it is bound to that Archer.
Again, I'm worried that if there is a power outage or for any reason my parents would turn off the power then all the setting would be lost again and they would not be able to access the internet. I will be traveling back and would not return till next year. I was thinking about putting the old router back since that one worked for 5 years with no issues but I sent a lot of money on this router for its features.

If you are still with your parents, you may do more tests to check whether it's the settings on the C5400 which causes trouble. It is not right for the router to act like that. You may contact TP-Link Tech support by email to let them check for you.

I have contacted support and pretty much said the same thing that it should not happen like that and might be best to roll back the firmware which I did not.
Spent a lot of money on this router for the feature and this should not happen. I was thinking about putting back my old 5 year old router which I never had an issue with when there was power outage.
I'm just going to cross my finger nothing happen.

My router had the same issue. I contacted with TPlink support. They sent me a beta firmware and the issue was fixed.:D

They gave me a beta firmware as well via google docs but I have not updated this yet since I don't want to do this remotely. I will wait till the next time I'm at my parents house.
