797 Error setting up TD-8616

Hi,
I'm running into difficulties setting up my new modem. After doing some research it seems like outdated drivers may be one of the issues, but all signs point to being able to log into the admin utilities to update them. The problem is that when I connect my TD-8616 to the internet, I'm not even able to access the admin panel through 192.168.1.1. Is there any way to update the drivers without accessing the admin panel of the router, or am I completely off track here?
