Model: Archer D2
Firmware version: V1_160216 (EU)
ISP: Zen Internet

A while ago, I bought an Archer D2 to replace my old Netgear DGN2200, primarily because I wanted gigabit LAN support.

With my previous ISP (Demon Internet), everything was fine - DSL worked as expected, and with slightly better connection speed than before (~15Mbps). I then switched to Zen Internet, and encountered a strange issue: the DSL connection cannot establish itself unless I force the DSL mode to ADSL2 (or lower) instead of Auto or ADSL2+; this connects, but only at around 9Mbps. If I switch back to my old Netgear, it connects happily in ADSL2+ mode at ~14Mbps.

The debug logs appear to show it establishing the connection briefly but failing to receive a response to the authentication request in 2+ mode. In every slower mode, it works fine.

Is there another version of the DSL modem firmware (even a beta one) I can try?

Can you show us screenshot from line parameters from TP-Link?

Certainly - apologies for the delay.

Screenshots showing settings and status for "auto" mode and forced ADSL2 mode.

In auto mode it tries to connect in ADSL2+ mode and occasionally briefly succeeds, but just shows a large number of packet errors before dropping the connection. It never successfully acquires an IP address. When forced into ADSL2 mode it maintains a stable connection and gets an IP address as expected.

Your line is not very good we can see a lot of CRC Errors
ADSL GMT max speed is about 8Mb/s this is normal.
ADSL2+ max speed about 14Mb/s maybe less

The CRC errors only occur in 2+ mode - the counters don't get reset when I switch mode. Think I'd need to reboot the modem inbetween,

And yeah, 14Mbps is usually what I get with other modems in 2+ mode. If I could get it to connect stably at that speed, I'd be happy. Sadly, that's the line quality you get in a major UK town living ~200m from an exchange (and no, fibre isn't available either...).

Thing is, this modem worked fine with my previous ISP over the same line. The new ISP uses an unbundled local loop, so the only change is the equipment at the exchange - the physical line hasn't changed. It seems like an incompatibility between the TP-Link modem and whatever exchange-side kit Zen are using, as that's the only real variable left that I can see (this modem worked before; other modems worked before and work now).
