Model :

Hardware Version : Not Clear

Firmware Version :

ISP :

Router ASUS DSL-AC68U with 2 X TPLink RE450 repeaters within range of each other. Both have their LAN port connected to a TV. DHCP server is on the Router only. Repeaters have their DHCP servers set to off. SID is the same on every device as well as both channels.

1. I can't connect to either of the extenders through their assigned ip's. It looks like one of the extenders prefers connecting to the other extender so i only see the ip of the extender connected to the router on its interface. Even if i assign a ip manually i struggle to connect to the extender. I am lucky every now and then and get connected to the extender to fiddle with its settings.

2. Extenders lose their internet connection.

Does anyone have an idea what i'm doing wrong here?

@buksvdl RESOLVED: Was having this same problem on 08-11-2021. Solution was to only use a single channel from the RE450 to the internet router. I turned off 2.4 GHz, and used only 5 GHz to the internet router. The connection was stable, and the System Logs showed no errors.

Updating the firmware to the 2020 release didn't help fix the problem.

 Hello everyone,

If you experience some unstable issue with your  Range Extender, here are some good tips to give it a try.

[Troubleshooting] Range Extender Keeps Losing Connection

If the issue persists despite the above steps, please Start a New Thread for your range extender with case details (troubleshooting steps you've tried) and we'd love to look into that further:

1. Led status on RE when issue happens

2. Try to log in range extender web page when issue occurs and share a photo of Status page
3. How often does RE lose Internet and how to recover, like reboot RE or reboot router?
4. Brand and model of router &  Network topology, e.g.  Router AX1500 <wireless> RE450
5. Firmware and hardware version of RE:  How to find the hardware and firmware version of my TP-Link device?
6. For dual-band extender, verify if the problem is with 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz or both.
7. When did you buy the extender and how long has it been working fine with the same router?

8. Does the issue particularly happen during in certain/ large-traffic network activities , like P2P download, streaming. Gaming

Thank you!

RE450 connectivity issue
2016-01-25 21:54:05
My router is TP-Link Archer C3200 and I'm experiencing similar issue with recently purchased RE450.
- RE450 is loosing connection/its IP
- Described by buksvdl issues

There is a similar thread in this forum when they asked to attached RE450 system log. Thus, I've posting log (after shortly after RE450 reboot) from my RE450 (look at the ERROR). Note that all these times all lights on RE450 are blue. Sometimes I have to restart RE450 to get it going again. I will try to call TP-Link support but have a very little hope they will be able to solve it on the spot. I hope they would address this soon.

Model E450, Hardware V1, Firmware - updated RE450(EU)_V1_151203

I had a better connection with My ASUS router and in the same room where i placed the TP-LINK extender. I'm looking into sending this crap back.

Well this is one of the few support forums where Ive yet to see an answer or even a response from someone in the company showing they actually read these.

My re450 is having the same problems. I wont lose the connection to the extender but beyond the extender it wont connect to the internet or the network Im extending. Ive tried it with an auto ip and assigning a static ip to the extender. Tried it with the dhcp server on, off, and auto. Tried every possible combination of what connections to connect to and which to extend. For the most part it looks like it should work, if I login it shows everything is fine. However when I lose the net I connect to the router wifi directly and it starts to work again so it has to be an extender problem.

On a side note I have had other tplink extenders that never had this problem so Ive pretty much narrowed it down to this not working Not seeing any company response doesnt make me hold my breath for a firmware fix so I think I will get the powerline adapters when I get sick of this.

I sent both back. Opted for ASUS RT-AC87U - that together with my existing ASUS RT-AC68U should blast the signal to the moon and back. Goodbye TP-Link........

I had a similar loosing connection issue with another model (RE210). TPlink support told me to use fixed Wifi channel between my main router/AP and the extender. It has solved my problem.

Re:RE450 Range Extender losing connection

As TP-Link support suggested, I have replaced/exchanged my (problematic) RE450 with the brand new one. Though, random "dropping off" connections are still CONSTANTLY happening. What actually seems happened is that wireless device (especially IP Cameras) is staying connected to RE450 but looses any communication to/with the router. Within the time that communication might be reestablished and device comes back on line. My router is TP-Link AC3200. Thus this was the primary reason I bought RE450 presuming that they will work in tandem perfectly. Apparently it is NOT the case. And I did try to use fixed channels on the router with no visible difference in stability. It seem for me, based on my experience talking to them, the TP-Link support is very "weak" in addressing such issue. I wish there developers will come up with some solution for it.
But at this point I really regret that I've spent a lot of money on the products that do not work as advertised.

Works now!
2016-03-04 10:27:12
I got it to work! Not sure what actually fixed it but I bought the ac2600 router and still had the issue. I usually set up either static ip's or dhcp reservations for my devices. Well what worked is setting the re450 to a static ip and going to dhcp on anything that would connect to it. Now I dont get the problem which wasnt that the device would lose connection to the internet but stay connected to the network. No idea how what I did fixed anything but somehow I havent had any problems since then.

have you solved this issue now? I tried to set my router's 2.4GHz wireless channel bandwidth to 40MHz, it solved my problem.

Re:RE450 Range Extender losing connection

My RE450 is extending wireless range from my TP-Link Archer C3200. Thus TP-Link recently published a firmware update for C3200. After I've applied that update, communication became more stable with much less connection dropping issues. Though, both of these devices still need improvements. Maybe more on the RE450 side now. As I've mentioned previously, if I would know of such problems I would not buy TP-Link router and extender. I also would like to see a major improvement in the "system logging" as it is very generic now and apparently does not reflect any underlying issues there.
