TL-WR841N no internet connection

I want to replace my old router with a TL-WR841N. But the TL-WR841N does not get an internet connection.
I tried the following: I connected the WAN port of the TP-WR841N to the DSL modem, which is an Arcor-DSL Speed-Modem 50B and I connected my computer to a LAN port of the TP-WR841N. I switched on all devices and went through the quick setup at the WR841N web interface. There, I selected PPPoE and I used the access data, which worked with the old router.
This did not work. The router said "connecting..." in the status screen but did not get a connection.
Then I disconnected modem and router from power and reconnected after some minutes. I got the same result. After that I changed the IP of the router to 192.168.2.1 and the WAN MAC-Adress to the one of the old router. And I double checked all settings. I switched off modem and router and on again after some minutes and still got no connection. I tried again with my old router and that got an internet connection.
How can I get the WR841N to connect to the internet?

Your modem is a bridge modem or modem router? With direct connection to the modem, you cannot access internet?
Check the system log. Is there any error message with PPPoE connection?
Try dynamic IP instead of PPPoE on web interface of WR841N.

Thank you for your response.
The modem is a simple DSL modem. I tried to directly connect the computer to the modem but this neither worked. But when I connect the modem to my old router, which is a SMC 7004 VBR, it works instantaneously. There, I used PPPoE. I just want to replace the old router because it hangs very often.
In the system log is an error message, which says 'timeout waiting for PADO packets'.
I also tried dynamic IP with the WR841N but this did not work, too. Besides, when I use dynamic IP I can not enter my login data.

What's the hardware version and firmware version of your WR841N?
Firmware is up to date or not?
Connect the modem directly to your PC and try to set up a PPPoE connectoin on your PC. If it works, hard reset WR841ND first and reconfigure it. If the problem continues, replace it under warranty.

The hardware version of the WR841N is V9.0. The firmware is up to date (3.16.9).
I tried to set up a PPPoE connection directly between my PC and the modem, but without success. Only my old router instantly gets a connection.
Maybe something is broken?

You may contact your ISP to confirm if there is any limitation on their end.

Can you show me status tab from your old router when you have internet access? Next time status from TP-link?
