TL-WDR3600 N600 Dual Band Wifi-Router: Weak Signal

I recently bought a new TP-Link TL-WDR3600 N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router and I managed to successfully connect to the Internet. However, in order to get a good signal I must use my wireless devices at a very close distance to the router. Whenever I try to use my devices in my room, which is only a few metres away from the router's location (I live in a small apartment), the signal strength falls to 1 bar and I am barely able to watch a video online. Any help?
